DIRECTV Technical Support: Power Supplies
Signal Connect’s DIRECTV technical supports comes in many forms. Sometimes, we share tips to remedy DIRECTV connection issues. Other times, we educate you about satellite TV equipment. This time, we take a closer look at DIRECTV power adapters. There are a few of them out there, and we identify each and tell you which DIRECTV equipment it matches. This is important information because you never know when you might need to replace your power supply. Let’s take a closer look at the power adapters DIRECTV has to offer.
The DIRECTV EPS 10 Power Supply
Do all DIRECTV boxes use the same power supply? Close, but it’s not quite to that point… yet. Right now, most DIRECTV boxes use the same power adapter. It’s the DIRECTV EPS10, which is the most common DIRECTV power adapter. It’s used to deliver power to a wide variety of DIRECTV equipment, which includes:
C31 Genie Mini Client
C41 Genie Mini Client
C41W Wireless Genie Mini Client
C51 Genie Mini Client
C61 Genie Mini Client
C61K 4K Genie Client
C61W Wireless Genie Mini Client
Wireless Video Bridge
Note: It can’t power all of these devices at the same time. You’d need a separate power supply for each.
DIRECTV EPS44 Power Adapter
While the EPS 10 seems to be the most common DIRECTV power supply, it’s not the only one. The DIRECTV EPS44 is the power supply for most DIRECTV DVRs these days. For example, this device is used to power the H44 Genie, HR44 Genie, and HR54 Genie. It actually carries a bit more power than the popular EPS10 power adapter.
DIRECTV EPS17 Power Supply
The EPS17 power adapter has a very specific use. It’s delivers power to the HS17 Genie 2. If you don’t have this receiver, you don’t need the EPS17.
DIRECTV PI29Z Power Inserter
The PI29Z power inserter, is not a power supply. It’s a power inserter, as its name implies. This means it puts power over a coax cable so it can be used by outdoor equipment or consumer premises equipment. A power supply, on the other hand, is used to power a receiver. As far as the PI29Z is concerned, it’s something you use to power your dish if you don’t want to power it using your DVR, or if you have an external multiswitch. This device is fairly common in homes that have a DIRECTV satellite installation. Today’s PI29Z replaces an older version with a black out shell.

Directv box is simply the perfect thing that you can get out there in order to transform your experience. Their DVRs are the perfect thing that you can get for HD and 3D streaming experience and of course they are pretty good at the signal receiving and all the other stuff they are made for.
Yet, there are certain complications that you will also have to deal with them and getting another device attached to your TV for the signal reception is not something that someone would optimally want to handle.
DirecTV Box Won’t Turn On After Power Outage
These are some of the best boxes and they don’t tend to develop much issues for you either. However, there are certain problems that you need to be careful about as well. If you are getting power outages, and after that you are unable to turn on your Directv box, that is some serious trouble. Here are a few things that you will have to do in order to get that problem fixed for you.
1) Check on the Circuit
First things first and the power outages are not something good for your circuit. Luckily, there are fuses and circuit breakers that will save your equipment from getting damaged all of a sudden and that is the best thing that you can get.
To start off the troubleshooting, you will need to make sure that you are checking the circuit first for current flowing. Start off with the circuit breakers and if there is some circuit breaker tripped, you will need to turn it on after you make sure that the current is fine now. Once you get that sorted out, you will need to keep a keen eye on the fuses for any of the blown fuses.
If you find a fuse to be blown, you will need to have it replaced with the same fuse and that is going to help you out perfectly. Lastly, you will need to check the electric wall socket as well. To make that sure, you will have to plug in some other appliance on the same wall outlet and check if that is working. This will help you figure out if your Directv is fine, or if there is something wrong with the wall outlet that needs to be checked and fixed.
2) Clean it properly
Another thing that might be causing you to have this problem is that there might be some issue with heat dissipation. The dirt needs to be cleaned off and you will have to make sure that you are cleaning all the dirt and dust from the Directv box.
After that, you will need to plug it out from the wall outlet and let it rest for a moment or two. Besides, you will also need to plug it back in with the power outlet on your wall and that will help you out in making it work in the perfect manner. You will need to be mindful that you are plugging it in correctly and the adapter is tightly plugged in and not simply hanging loose.
3) Change the power cord
The power cord on your Directv box can also potentially go wrong and you will have to make sure that it is not the culprit behind all this trouble. It is better to keep a power cord handy at all times and that will help you out in such tight corners. So, you can try it out with the other power cord and that will help you in making it work most of the time without causing much trouble for you.
4) Get it checked
The best thing is that all the equipment you get from Directv including these Directv boxes for coverage and streaming are sourced by them and they have the right support division as well to help you out of the tight corners.
You just need to make sure that you are contacting the support department and they are going to help you locating the nearest service center to help you with the diagnosis. They are not only going to diagnose the Directv box for you, but they will also be able to make sure that they provide you the right fix, let it be a repair or replacement.
Power Inserters for the Single Wire Multiswitch
The SWM-8 was designed to make sure that the only cable that needs to penetrate exterior walls is one RG-6 cable - a cable that may already be in place from cable TV installations.
For this reason, the power has been engineered to travel back up the same cable that the satellite signal travels down. So the SWM-8 sits outside with the dish, and the power source is installed inside the house. The cable from the SWM goes into the power inserter, and then the power inserter has an output that carries the SWM signal on to the receivers. That output of the power inserter is low-voltage.
A few different types of power inserters are available for the DIRECTV SWM-8. We recommend the DIRECTV-brand power inserter in any situation where you are installing only one SWM-8 unit. This is generally labelled PI-28, although is generally delivers 29 volts of power. A newer revision is now called the PI-29. The PI-28 and PI-29 can also power a SWM16, or a SWM LNB.
There is another DirecTV SWM power inserter called the PI-21. This works in a similar way (RG6 pass-through) but this is for the SWM dish, not the SWM8. So this works with both the 3LNB SWM dish and the 5LNB SWM dish. We do not recommend using a PI-21 with a SWM8 or a SWM16 multiswitch.

Troubleshoot your DIRECTV receiver
Check the receiver’s power supply
- Make sure your TV is turned on.
- Press the Power button on the front panel of your receiver. If your receiver doesn’t turn on, continue to the next step.
- Unplug the ends of the power cord from the back of your receiver and the electrical outlet. Then, securely plug it back in at both ends.
- If a light switch controls the electrical outlet, make sure it’s flipped on.

- Press the Power button on the front panel of your receiver.
If your receiver still doesn’t turn on, check your electrical outlet.
Test your electrical outlet

- If your appliance doesn't turn on, try resetting the outlet. You can reset the circuit breaker or press the reset button if your outlet has one (see image).
- Plug your receiver into a working outlet to see if it turns on.
If the outlet works, but your receiver still won’t power on, contact us.
