Awesome!!!

Ok so know that this isn’t a perfect 5 star rating because NOTHING is perfect. Take that into account and this app update is awesome. The old swipe feature had its place but this looks more like a real remote and that’s what we’re all used to. The app is easy to pair and comes in very handy because the remotes that come with the Fire Sticks are crap. We have 3 Fire Sticks in the house (2 HD and 1 4K) and only one remote still works. It’s the remote for the 4K Fire Stick and we decided to re-pair it with the bedroom tv. The “d-pad” on the app needs to be smaller, it should be at the bottom of the screen for people with smaller hands like my wife and there needs to be more options that would be on a basic remote (like a sleep button or volume control) but overall this update to the remote app is a HUGE step in the right direction. Adding the remote listening feature, which is available for the Roku remote app (we have two Rokus as well), would be awesome too.

Easy fix

I usually don’t do reviews but here it goes... this app has always worked great for me especially since I have lost the physical remote. But recently for about a week or so when I attempted to watch anything the app would not let go up,down, left or right I could however click on the setting button and it would immediately take me to settings but again I could not go up,down, left or right and when I clicked the home button it immediately went to the home button but I still couldn’t move around. I came on here in the reviews to see if anyone was having this issue I had attempted to unplug and re-plug the fire stick and I was still have the same issue. Today I decided to contact support through the app and selected call me, so I immediately got a call waited less than 1 minute and they actually helped me. She was able to take control of my screen and see what I was talking about she had me troubleshoot by reinstalling this app on my phone than unplugging the fire stick from my tv wait 2-3 minutes than plug it back in and to my surprise it WORKED i guess waiting before replugging helped because I had unplugged the fire stick before but not that long just like a couple seconds so yeah hope someone can find this helpful.

It’s very good, but needs improvement

This app was very useful when I lost my fire stick remote (idk how I lost it but I suspect it’s in my room), my mom mentioned it to me, and I reinstalled it. (my mom must’ve had the app previously) It took me by surprise of how good it was! I functioned just like my fire stick! (My fire stick was awesome btw ;-;) But there is two things that irritates me. And one of them is when my phone turns off automatically, it would have a little “Reconnecting” thing. This didn’t bug me much, until now. Now, if you leave the app open for a long time, the “Reconnecting” thing will be a bit long. (Not too long, but enough to annoy me) And, there is the last thing I need to complain about lol. If you leave the app for a long time, the thing I just said above is if your fast enough to come back. If you leave it for a long enough time, when you come back to the app, it shows how to connect to your fire stick TV. Now, this happens a lot, and it’s really stupid cause it takes so many taps just to be lucky and actually connect to it. Let me get straight to the point. Sometimes if I try to connect to it, (which means tap on what my TV is called) it doesn’t work. It’s like a frozen screen, but it’s not. And if I hit the wrong thing, which happens often, It would send me to “Add Devices”. Please fix this, it would be better for me.

4 Best Fire TV Stick Remote Apps for Android and iOS

Fire TV Stick comes with a remote controller right inside the box. But as this is 2020, we can expect a bit more user-friendliness. It’s always a task to search for anything with the remote controller. So having the TV connected to your phone is a much better option as we can use the phone’s keyboard for a quick search. You can operate the TV without having to jiggle around for a piece of plastic. But you need Fire TV Stick remote apps for Android to use it effectively.

Best Fire TV Stick Remote Apps for Android and iOS

Amazon already has its own Fire TV remote app that can completely replace the controller Fire TV that came with the box.

1. Amazon Fire TV

The Fire TV app from Amazon is just like having the Fire TV controller on your phone with a few extra features. It’s clean-looking, supports Alexa, and is easy to connect. Unlike the controller that only supports the directional dial pad, the app also offers a touchpad like a controller to operate the TV with gestures.

amazon fire tv default app

The best part of the default app, when compared to other remote apps, is that you can open installed apps instantly with a single click just by clicking on the app’s icon at the top-right and selecting the app that you want to open.

launching app via amazon fire tv app

Connecting the Fire TV remote app is easy. Just open the app when you are connected to the same Wi-Fi as your TV. Here you can look at all the Fire TVs that are connected to your Wi-Fi. Just select the Fire TV that you want to control and the TV will show you a 4 digit code, just type it on your phone to connect the app to TV. That’s it, you have successfully connected the Fire TV app to your TV and take advantage of all the features.

Pros:

  • Supports Alexa search
  • Can open apps instantly
  • Easy to pair

Cons:

  • Only works with Fire TV devices
  • Supports only directional pad and touchpad modes
  • The touchpad controller is a bit buggy to use.

2. CetusPlay

CetusPlay is a third-party remote app that works great with Firesticks and Android TV devices. This app can be a much better option than the Fire TV app for a one-sole reason, it supports different controller modes including Gamepad which makes playing games on the Fire TV much more enjoyable.

Just like the first-party Fire TV controller, CetusPlay also supports app view to open apps instantly with a single click. So you are not losing on the options that the Fire TV app provides.

Though the app has volume keys, if you are using Fire TV Stick lite, they don’t work as the Firestick lite itself does not have control over your TV Settings.

cetusplay ui

Additionally, it also offers an App Store which makes sideloading apps like Chrome onto your Firestick a much easier process. But before that you need to open settings on the Fire Stick > My Fire TV > Developer Options > Install Unknown apps and turn on “Cetusplay for TV”.

In order for this app to work, you need to first enable the ADB Debugging. You can do that from settings > My Fire TV > Developer Options and click on “ADB Debugging” to turn it on. Once done, you can just open the Cetusplay app on the phone and connect to the Fire TV from there. It only shows you the IP address of your device. If you own multiple fire sticks, you can check IP address of your Fire Stick in Settings > My Fire TV > About > Network. Now just click on the icon with the IP address that you want to connect to. That’s it, the remote will be connected to the TV.

connect to ip address

Pros:

  • Ability to open apps instantly
  • Option to sideload apps from the inbuilt app store.
  • Supports many modes including game controller

Cons:

  • Ads
  • Alexa doesn’t work
  • Only available on Android

3. Harmony Remote

One key feature that stands out in Harmony remote is that it connects with Bluetooth instead of Wi-Fi. This allows you to use the remote even when you are on mobile data. Though this isn’t a big deal, checking the Wi-Fi connectivity every time to use an app can be a turnoff.

The app is clean and has features like support for many modes like a directional pad, touchpad, voice search, etc. The app stands out for its clean ad-less UI with a ton of options blended into it.

But the biggest caveat of this app is the set-up process. You need to purchase a harmony hub in order to connect your TV and your phone. Anyhow, you can use this hub to build a smart home from the scratch. If you aren’t having any plans for it then this app may not be for you.

Pros:

  • Connects via Bluetooth instead of Wi-Fi
  • Clean UI

Cons:

  • Need to purchase Harmony Hub to setup

Download Harmony Remote (Android) | Harmony Remote (iOS)

4. AnyMote Universal Remote

AnyMote is just a random Fire TV remote app but stands out for the level of customization it offers. You only get a directional pad with this remote app. But you can customize keys with a double-tap, swipe gestures, two-finger gestures, etc.

anymote universal remote app

Just like Harmony remote, Anymore also has an Anymore hub, but you can even use your Amazon Echo device as an alternative. It adds additional support as you can use Alexa from the remote just like the first-party Amazon Fire TV remote.

Pros:

  • Customization
  • Connects with Echo and has Alexa Support

Cons:

  • Full-screen video ads
  • Can only work with Hub or Echo connected

Wrapping Up: Fire TV Remote Apps

You can also check other apps like Fire TV Remote, Fire Remote, etc. that are subscription-based and don’t offer value for it. On the other side, there are apps like Droidmote that are great and have gamepad support but have too many connectivity issues with Fire TV that you need to figure out every time you use the remote app.

If you are reading this, then you definitely know what a Firestick is, then, it’s safe also to assume that you know about the Firestick remote apps. However, then, just in case you stumbled across this blog, and don’t know what we are talking about, the Amazon Firestick is the digital version to your cable television. It is a device that allows you to stream all kinds of media directly onto your TV set via Wi-Fi. This device more or less turns your television into a smart television, and it comes with a remote control with which you can navigate the programs and applications.

best firestick remote apps

How the firestick works essentially is that you connect it to your TV via the HDMI port, you then install certain apps that you are interested in such as Netflix (for the movie lovers) and Spotify (for music). You can then enjoy the media services provided by these apps directly on your television. This device is more or less a replacement for cable.

Now, as mentioned, the device comes with a remote control, but then, there are times when you will misplace your remote, or the battery will expire (as is apt to happen to all remote controls). What then do you do?

I love this

My son loses my control a lot so I got this app. Now no matter what I will be able to control my tv. The only two downsides to this remote is one I can speak into Alexa and have her go to what I want. I have to do everything manually. The actual remote gives me that option. The second thing would be, you can use this same app for another tv. I have two fire sticks.

Incredibly slow communication with the tv/stick through a fast network

On the up side, it works. I can use the buttons just like I do on the original remote. However, even though I have a relatively fast network, I was unimpressed with the amount of delay between pressing the buttons and response in the tv/stick applications. Press home and wait # seconds then press down and wait # seconds then press down again and wait # seconds then press right and wait # seconds, ... then press the center circle to select the app and wait. Whew, I almost forgot what I wanted to watch before I got to it. Multiply the number of button presses by the number of seconds each takes and you could spend a lot of time waiting for responses. Imagine what this means if you want to fast forward or rewind a certain amount within the application.

Ads

It was a great app at the start. The ads have became a little to forced and they keep getting worse. Basically to keep pushing you toward purchasing a subscription. The app use to allow you the keyboard function at first. Now without a purchase you can’t use it. It was wrong to update the app saying that it was for fixing the bugs in the app. When in actuality it was just to update more ads and to take things away.
So please spare your customers and potential customers like me. Just make the app where you must purchase it. So we can move to another app. Which I am currently searching and deciding right now.

How to Use Your Phone as a Remote Control With Amazon Fire TV Stick

What to Know

  • On the Fire TV Remote app, select Sign In > enter email and password > Sign In > select device > enter connection request code number.
  • The Fire TV Stick remote app is available for both Android and iOS, but it doesn't work with every device.

This article explains how to set up and use the app on your phone, plus lists the requirements your device needs to use the official Fire TV Stick remote app to control Fire TV Stick, Fire TV, and Fire TV Cube devices.

Fire Stick Remote Not Working? Try These Troubleshooting Tips

How to Set up the Fire TV Stick Remote Control App

Once you've downloaded and installed the Fire TV Stick remote app on your phone or compatible tablet, you're ready to set it up with your Fire TV. To accomplish this, you'll need access to both your Fire TV and your phone.

Here's how to set up the Fire TV Stick remote control app:

  1. Launch the Fire TV Stick remote app.

  2. Tap Sign In.

  3. Enter the email and password for your Amazon account, and then tap Sign In.

  4. Select your Fire TV Stick, or any other Fire TV device you own.

If you don't see your device, make sure that it's plugged in and connected to the same network as your phone.

  5. Turn on your television, and switch to the input associated with your Fire TV Stick, or whichever Fire TV device you're trying to control.

  6. Look for the Fire TV Stick remote app connection request code number.

  7. Enter the code in your Fire TV Stick remote app.

  8. The app will connect to your Fire TV Stick or other Fire TV device.

Requirements to Use the Fire TV Phone App

The Fire TV Stick remote app is available for Android and iOS, but it doesn't work with every device. Here are the basic requirements that your device needs to meet to use the Fire TV Stick remote app:

The Fire TV Stick remote app can also control other Fire TV devices, including the Fire TV Cube and Fire TV 4K. You can download this single app and use it as a remote for all of your Fire TV devices.

How to Use the Fire TV Stick Remote App

The Fire TV Stick remote app mimics the same functionality you're used to from the physical Fire TV Stick remote. It has all the same buttons, and they do all of the same things.

The only differences between the remote app and the physical remote are:

  • The app has a touchpad in the middle instead of the circle button.
  • The app has a built-in keyboard.
  • The app includes a shortcut list that allows you to launch any of your apps whenever you want.

Here's how to use to Fire TV Stick remote app:

  1. Tap anywhere on the touchpad area to select the currently highlighted item on your Fire TV.

  2. With your finger pressed down in the touchpad area, move your finger left, right, up, or down to scroll in that direction.

  3. To move your selection without scrolling, swipe from the middle of the touchpad in the direction you want to move.

  4. Tap the keyboard icon in the upper left corner to access the keyboard.

Voice controls are only available in certain countries. If you live in an area where Amazon doesn't allow voice controls, downloading this app will not enable voice controls.

  5. Tap and hold the microphone, then say what you're looking for, or say the name of an app you want your Fire TV to open.

  6. Tap the Apps & Games icon, located between the microphone and keyboard icons, to launch the Apps & Games shortcut menu.

Tap any app or game in this list to instantly launch it on your Fire TV Stick or other Fire TV device.

  7. The return, home, menu, reverse, play/pause, and fast forward buttons all work the same way they do on the physical remote.

Fire TV Remote app - Control Firestick with Phone and type with KEYBOARD (Ios \u0026 Android)

Trying to manage remotes in 2021 feels like trying to manage your bills, nearly impossible without some outside help. Thankfully, if you’re using a Fire Stick to stream your favorite shows and movies,  you can take it on yourself to reduce the amount of remote controls and gaming controllers that are probably flooding your living room.

How to Control Volume on Your Amazon Fire Stick

Depending on which Fire Stick model you own, you may have a remote that already has the capability to control your volume. If you don’t, that’s okay too—in this guide, we’re going to look at all the options you have to control how your Fire Stick works to change the volume.

Volume-Equipped Remote

Beginning with the Fire Stick 4K, Amazon began to equip the Fire remote with a volume rocker, a mute button, and a power switch for your TV. If you’ve purchased a Fire Stick within the last couple of years, you probably already have this remote—though you may not have a television equipped to handle the input. If you’re trying to get your remote to work and it doesn’t seem to want to cooperate, make sure your TV supports HDMI-CEC, and that your Fire Stick is plugged into a CEC-compatible port.

For anyone else who doesn’t have a volume-equipped remote, here’s the good news: you can actually buy the newest remote from Amazon without having to buy an all-new device. For just $29, Amazon sells the updated remote individually, and it works with all Fire Sticks and most other Fire devices. It doesn’t work with early Fire TV boxes, however, or with TVs with Fire OS built-in. For the former, you’re better off buying a new Fire Stick anyway, since they’re only an extra $10 for the 1080p model.

Pairing the Firestick Remote for Volume Control

Pairing a new remote with your Fire Stick is super easy, and it also can help you if you have an unresponsive remote. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Go into Settings.
  2. Scroll over and select Equipment Control.
  3. Select TV, a loading screen will appear. Firestick Manage Equipment menu
  4. A new screen will open. You will be asked, “What brand of TV do you have?”
  5. Select the appropriate brand.
  6. Press the Power button on your remote. This will turn the TV off.
  7. Wait for 10 seconds and then press the Power button again. This will turn the TV back on.
  8. You will be asked, “Did your TV turn off and then back on when you pressed the Power button?” Select Yes, if it worked. Note, you may need to try and pair the remote several times for it to work.
  9. Try turning up the volume. The device will play some music so you can check.
  10. If the volume changed then click Yes. If not, click No and try the setup again. Firestick Remote Setup menu
  11. Follow the prompts to end the setup, you’ll be asked about you input TV settings after setting the remote. Firestick Remote Setup menu 2

Several people have reported having to run through the remote setup at least three times for it to work, so be patient and attempt the process a few times. Not to bore you with some of the details of how it works, but the remote is essentially scanning and setting itself to match the frequency that the TV receives signals on.

Owners of Fire Stick devices that have the 2nd-gen Alexa remotes can also control the volume via voice commands. Press the Microphone button on your remote and tell Alexa to increase or decrease the volume.

How to Record IPTV On the Firestick

No Fire Stick Remote

If your 2nd-gen Alexa remote got lost, broken, or is out of reach, you can still adjust the volume with your TV’s remote. Grab it and use the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to set the volume level to the desired level.

Using Alexa

Don’t forget: if you don’t have a Fire remote that supports volume control, you can still use Echo devices to ask Alexa to turn your volume up or down. It won’t work on every television, but if your device supports CEC, you should be able to control your volume without any remote at all.

Volume Set for Bingeing

Now your volume is set, and you got your favorite streaming apps. The only thing left to do is to sit back and get to binging.

How do you control the volume on your Fire Stick? Do you use the remote or do you let Alexa take care of it for you? Tell us in the comments section below.
